I was raised in the 1960's in Waukegan, Illinois, where we were blessed with inspirational teachers and outstanding art programs. I never went anywhere without my trusty sketchbook and planned for a career in the art world.
In 1977 I received my BFA from Illinois Wesleyan School of Art and found work as a printing press operator for the Outboard Marine Corporation (Johnson Motors) on the lovely Lake Michigan shoreline. It was a great job in a creative full-service print shop, but within two years I was part of a famously massive layoff.

My creative journey then took a few detours. There were bills to be paid so I spent the next 30+ years as a public service employee in local government. During that time I sold drawings and paintings on commission, donated ''art certificates'' to charity events and gifted artwork to family and friends.

I am now retired and free to return to art, but my style has mellowed with age. Instead of always striving for photo-realism, I'm now also drawn to the spontaneity and wonder of fluid acrylic paint pouring. And as I become more comfortable with this process I'm finding ways to combine these styles by using fluid acrylic art as the backdrop for realistic drawing, painting and embellishment.

What is ''Recanvassed'' Art?
As an ardent recycler I take great satisfaction in using orphaned objects and second-hand surfaces to create one-of-a-kind ''recanvassed'' art. Raised in a thrifty family of garage sale shoppers, I've seen my share of unwanted objects and bruised belongings destined for the landfill. So now, as an artist, I watch for salvage that can be recycled as the ''canvas'' for a fluid acrylic painting. Most items need just minor repair and careful cleaning before finding new life as paint-poured modern art.

Some of these castoffs were hand-crafted or designed by talented artisans, so I make every effort to preserve all original signatures and labels as a credit to their workmanship. By recanvassing these treasures I hope to show my respect for both the original craftsman and for our environment.
